Apple Arcade is an excellent platform for players that enjoy having a wide selection of top-tier RPGs. And while there are some well-known titles in Apple Arcade, there are some RPGs that are less known to most gamers. Fortunately, this Apple Arcade RPG tier list will help those players find hidden gems within the platform.

6 Various Daylife

Notable Features:

Simplified J-RPG Stunning Art Style

At its core, Various Daylife is a simplified Japanese RPG game, which is no surprise since Square Enix published it. Various Daylife has a basic JRPG-style storyline that features a protagonist that embarks on a journey with a group of explorers. Players can customize their team to fight against increasingly difficult enemies and bosses during the adventure.

This Apple Arcade RPG also features a stunning art style that reminds players of retro J-RPG games, like Xenogears and Tales of Symphonia. Unfortunately, although Various Daylife has many RPG elements that iOS players will appreciate, it lacks content and replayability. Furthermore, several game-breaking bugs still remain to be fixed, like corrupted game saves or items that disappear.

5 Overland

Notable Features:

Random Encounters Unique Art Style

Even though apocalypse-themed RPGs are quite common in the gaming community, Overland has proved that game developers can add their own touch to this genre. This Apple Arcade RPG is set in an apocalyptic America that has undergone dramatic changes due to an unprecedented environmental catastrophe. Like other survival RPGs, players must scavenge for food and supplies to survive the horrors of the land.

The player’s primary goal is to reach California, where there are other survivors. But, players will need to travel through various biomes (seven in total), each having its own set of challenges. Gamers will also have to fight off various “Bugs” while avoiding Obstacles (traps) that other survivors have placed in the area.

4 The Last Campfire

Notable Features:

Relaxing Atmosphere Puzzle-galore

Since the first titles of The Legend of Zelda series were released, puzzles have become essential in RPGs. Nowadays, almost every RPG game features dozens of challenging puzzles players must complete (Gotham Knights is an excellent example of a recent RPG with plenty of puzzles to complete). And while The Last Campfire isn’t a complete RPG game, it does feature puzzles that RPG fans can appreciate.

In The Last Campfire, players must complete puzzles to save fellow “forlorn souls” who have lost hope of finding their purpose in life. Additionally, players can read Wanderer’s Diary to learn more about the game’s lore. If The Last Campfire had more RPG elements, it would have ranked much higher in this tier list. Nonetheless, RPG fans that want to sit back and relax will enjoy completing every puzzle in The Last Campfire, especially since they all tie into the main storyline.

3 HEROish

Notable Features:

Castle Defender RPG Fun Multiplayer

Even though most RPG fans avoid playing certain “genre mashups,” HEROish is a game that successfully blends two seemingly different genres (Castle Defender and RPG) into one fun game that any hardcore gamer will enjoy. In HEROish, players can customize their character through cards, each offering different buffs or abilities.

And while the multiplayer is where the fun is, there are several playable campaigns, each rewarding players with unique characters that they can customize. In multiplayer, players can use a custom deck to battle their opponents and will be rewarded with gold if they win, which they can then use to upgrade their characters. The only downside to HEROish is that some decks are quite OP, forcing players to use the same deck and limiting creativity.

2 Cat Quest 2

Notable Features:

Old-school RPG Co-op Ready

Even though having new gameplay features in RPGs makes the genre much more fun, it doesn’t mean they are better than the old-school RPGs like the Diablo series or Secret of Mana. And Cat Quest 2 is one of the few more recent RPG titles that sticks to its roots. In this Apple Arcade RPG, players take control of a Cat on a quest to reclaim Felingard.

Players can complete several side quests throughout the adventure, find unique weapons and armor, and fight multiple bosses. Dungeon crawling is another fun gameplay feature gamers can play in Cat Quest 2, which is common in old-school RPGs. But the best part is that players can team up with a friend in co-op and free the land of Felingard from evil.

1 Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm

Notable Features:

Zelda-like Gameplay Dozens of Unique Weapons and Armor

The Legend of Zelda fans will surely enjoy playing Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm since it has several notable gameplay resemblances from previous Zelda games and a similar art direction to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This is an “indirect” sequel to Oceanhorn: Monster of Uncharted Seas (not included in Apple Arcade) but is set 1,000 years in the past.

Players can wield various weapons and spells, from the classic bow and arrow to spells. But gamers that want to “cheese” the entire game will want to use fire or ice spells as they prove to be quite OP later on in the game. Furthermore, Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm has several challenging bosses that players must fight, which will reward them with unique and powerful items. This is the perfect RPG for players that want to play a game like Breath of the Wild but don’t have a Nintendo Switch.
